INVISALIGN®

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign® is a series of nearly invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that can move and align your teeth.  Because the aligners are clear, no one can tell you are wearing them while they are moving your teeth.  So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign® is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been an effective treatment option for many of our patients.

Why would I want it?

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor's office getting adjustments. Invisalign® also allows Dr. Richardson to view your virtual treatment plan so she can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
The big catch is not everyone is suitable for Invisalign® treatment – depending on what you want to have done to your teeth and how difficult it will be to achieve that result. Dr. Richardson will discuss this more with you at your consultation appointment and determine which option is best for you.

How does it work?

Each aligner is worn for between 2 to 3 weeks, and are removed only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position. You'll visit Dr. Richardson regularly to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time usually averages between 6-12 months.  The average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 8-12, but this varies from case to case depending on the complexity.
